Shortcuts and Siri

Start and stop your timer from Shortcuts, Spotlight, and Siri, without opening Qufy.

Before you start

  • Qufy for Mac 0.1.21 or later, signed in, and macOS 13 or later. Phrases for Siri and Spotlight need macOS 14.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the Shortcuts app on your Mac and make a new shortcut.

  2. 2

Search for “Qufy” in the actions.

  3. 3

Add the actions you need, such as “Start timer” on a project when a Focus turns on, or “Get today's time” at the end of the day.

  4. 4

Or skip the shortcut: say a phrase to Siri, or type it in Spotlight, such as “Start Qufy timer for Brand refresh” or “Stop Qufy timer”.

Good to know

  • “Start timer” works on the project you pick, or on your last project, and can add a note. Only projects with an hourly rate can start.
  • “Stop timer” saves the session and says how long it was. A session under a minute is not saved, and Qufy says so.
  • “Switch project” moves the session to the new project in its first five minutes; after that, Qufy saves it and starts a new one.
  • “Add note” adds to the running session's note, after any note already there. “Get today's time” answers like “3h 43m · EGP 1,630” and also gives today's minutes as a number for your own shortcuts.
  • There are also “Pause timer” and “Resume timer”. The actions update the Qufy window, the menu-bar panel, and the widgets at once.
  • Arabic phrases work when Siri's language is Arabic. Action names in Shortcuts and Spotlight follow your Mac's language; Qufy's answers follow the app's language.
  • Offline, starting, stopping, and switching wait on this Mac and sync when you are back online. Pausing, resuming, notes, and today's time need a connection.

If something goes wrong

“Sign in to Qufy first”
Open Qufy on your Mac and sign in, then run the action again.
“Qufy needs an update.”
In Qufy's Settings, press “Check for updates”, or download the app again from the website.
